Information for your visit

Scope Opening Hours & Prices

The opening hours and admission prices apply to visits to the Viking Museum Haithabu. The museum consists of an exhibition hall and an open-air site. The open-air site is closed for the winter season and will reopen on March 30, 2026.

• Reduced admission applies to school pupils, trainees, students, people with severe disabilities, recipients of unemployment benefits (ALG II), and those performing voluntary service – in each case with valid identification.
• Family ticket: Two adults with children aged 7–17 years.
• Children up to and including 6 years of age are admitted free of charge.

For organizational reasons, we kindly ask groups of more than 10 people to register with us prior to their visit.

Mediaguide

The media guide can be downloaded to your own smartphone via a link (HERE) – either at home or on site using the museum’s free Wi-Fi. Alternatively, you can borrow a device from us. The loan is free of charge. If you don’t have your own headphones with you, you can purchase wired headphones with a 3.5 mm jack plug in the museum shop for €1.50.

Arrival & Parking

The Viking Museum Haithabu consists of an exhibition building and an open-air site with reconstructed Viking houses. The parking lot is located near the exhibition building. To walk from the parking lot to the reconstructed houses, you should allow approximately 20 minutes.

Museum visit without dogs

Please keep in mind when planning your visit that pets – including dogs – are not allowed in the exhibition building or anywhere on the open-air site with the Viking houses.

However, we have set up a small dog rest area both at the entrance to the exhibition building and at the entrance to the open-air site. Here you can leash your pets and also check on them during your visit.

Accessibility

The museum consists of an exhibition building and an open-air site.

The main parking lot is about a 10-minute walk from the exhibition building. For people with disabilities, there are three specially designated parking spaces a few meters from the entrance.

Between the exhibition building and the open-air site, a walk of approximately 20 minutes through the historic grounds should be planned. The walkway and the open-air site are only partially accessible. For visitors with an official disabled parking permit, there are separate parking spaces about 450 meters from the open-air site (geo-coordinates 54.4937960, 9.5626719).

If you have specific questions about planning your visit, please feel free to contact our service staff: Phone 04621 813 122, Email service@landesmuseen.sh.
